We engage in the technique of hand weaving and create scarves and accessories in our favorite colors. We work on the hand loom with a heddle in weaving widths ranging from 40cm to 60cm, either on a table or on a stand. After the warp planning (choice of material, warp length, warp width, density, etc.), we set up the looms, and the weaving can begin. We weave in plain weave with different materials, densities, and colors. In the design of the fabric, we experiment with color combinations that arise from the intersection of colored warp and weft threads. Christina imparts important aspects of color theory to us, following, for example, Johannes Itten. In addition, using the inlay technique, we can create graphic effects or weave classic patterns like checks, houndstooth, and pepita with two contrasting colors. The rhythmic movements of the hands and working with beautiful natural materials have a relaxing and beneficial effect on the body and mind in this fast-paced time.
Anyone who wishes can combine this workshop with the second session from October 4th to October 6th, 2024, to, for example, weave a carpet or a blanket.
